Lisa didn’t know how long she slept. She repeatedly drifted in and out of consciousness during the night without being really able to wake up, as it usually happened when she and Michael made love. Her body would be exhausted and drained, while her heart and mind needed more time to spend with him. Sex with him had always been such a weird and transcendent experience, since the very first time they had slept together.
They fell asleep almost immediately, each on their side of the bed. At first, Lisa turned onto her side and kept her back to him. Snuggled under the covers and feeling slightly cold, she observed the snow falling outside the French windows thinking that she would probably end up staying awake until dawn – simply because Michael couldn’t sleep. But she was wrong, and within minutes she heard his breathing deepen. His body almost felt heavier on the mattress, more relaxed.
His feet had never felt that heavy. Not even when he danced for five or six hours straight he felt so exhausted and out of it. The difference was that, while training, he looked disheveled and sweaty and his body and face showed all the traces of his full commitment. There was no mistaking what music did to him, the intensity with which it hit him even after all these years.
